Selamat Hari Guru!

Happy Teacher's day to all the hardworking teachers in Malaysia and the mentors who see their pain and try to make it better!

Each of the schools we attended on the day had many fun ( and wet) games planned for the teachers!

Dressed in our sports attire, we hurled coconuts, tried to catch water balloons and annihilated water packets with hockey sticks.

Even though the students just watched the teachers, I think they had the most fun of all!

New Beginnings.

We've kicked off to great start in each of our sub-clusters.  Together with Kristi's schools from Endau, mine from Nitar and Linda's from Bandar Mersing, we have already conducted three great workshops.

Our first workshops focused on Phonics and Classroom Management.  We are certain that by arming the teachers with tools to teach and introduce phonics to their classrooms, their students can soon learn to read and keep up with KSSR curriculum.

Many of our teachers face some kind of Classroom Management challenge.  A few have massive classes and cannot discipline or control their classes  and the rest struggle to motivate their students.  To our delight, lots of teachers have already begun to use reward charts, games and sanctions in their classes which has gone a long way to change classroom behaviour.

A teacher using the Hop Phonics game to test her student's understanding of segmenting and blending and satisfy their desire for jumping!

A class at Nitar 1 who have responded so well to being rewarded daily with stars/smiley faces to stick on their shirts.

Selamat Datang to Mersing!

Welcome to Mersing!

We are the hard-working and occasionally crazy cluster located in the small seaside town of Mersing.  When we say 'small' we mean tiny as I don't think you'll even find one horse in this town. But you will find a spectacular Thai restaurant, ocean and ferry to Tioman Island. With our fearless leader Kristi at the helm, Linda and I have successfully navigated our way through a speedy relocation, whirlwind of an induction and rushed introductions with our schools.

Three months in, we are loving it- our home and our schools. For the most part we have formed really wonderful relationships with most of our teachers and have become quite territorial with our precious sub-clusters :)  We look forward to see what unfolds in 2014!
