Sports Days

Schools all over the district participated in highly competitive sports days.  We had so much fun with the students and parents, and were treated as VIPs, handing out awards and prizes at the end.  Smiles and laughter were the order of the day.

Orang Asli Mini-Carnival

Students and teachers at SK Labong learned songs and dances for the mini-carnival in Kluang on November 7th and 8th.  They sounded great!

Welcome Runita!!

We are very happy to announce that a new mentor has arrived to assist English teachers in the Nitar sub-cluster.  Runita is originally from South Africa, and comes to us directly from 3 ½ years in Korea.  She started working in her schools after the Deepavali holiday, and has already made a difference with her teachers.  Welcome Runita!!

KSSR Training

The PPD hosted 2 full day KSSR trainings for year 5 at the PPD on October 29th and 30th.  The four teachers who organized and presented were all MTPs from either the previous or current TELL programs.  Kristi attended assisted wherever needed, but it was their show, and they did a great job.  The participants left with questions answered and feeling they had learned a great deal that could be

put to use in the classroom next year.

JELTA

On October 9, 10, and 11 the JELTA (Johor English Language Teaching Association) Conference took place in the M Suites Hotel, in Johor Bahru.  The focus of this year’s conference was English in rural areas with limited exposure to the language, which certainly applies to what we do here in Mersing.

Kristi had the honor of being invited to present a workshop focused on activities and methods to help students remember material previously taught.  The workshop was very well attended, with about a hundred participants.  She also “manned” the Brighton booth for 3 of the sessions and met many participants who were quite interested and enthusiastic about what we do in TELL2.

ETA Camp for year 5

On September 24th Linda and I participated in the afternoon session of an ETA English Camp for year 5 students from some of the more rural schools.  Some of our current MTPs were there, and we also had the wonderful opportunity to be with teachers from the previous TELL program.  Mr. Wee and Saharazad from the PPD were there also, and we joined Mr. Wee in judging the creatively crazy fashion show competition.
